Richard: And me, I still believe in paradise. But now at least I know its not some place you can look for, cause its not where you go. Its how you feel for a moment in your life when you’re a part of something, and if you find that moment... it lasts forever...

I had SO much fun today!!!  I suppose, according to today's quote, that I found paradise.  I spent the day hanging out with friends & just enjoying life.  It's probably the happiest I've been in a LONG time.  Heather, Lacey, & I began our evening of fun by going to the Friday Film Series.  The guy that hosts the Connections series is hilarious.  He's a crazy old man & I always enjoy watching him.  After the film ended, we went to the mall to shop for gifts for Queso's personal shower.  That was awesome!  Turns out Lacey gets really embarrassed around lingerie.  I'm not sure if we had more fun thinking about giving the gifts to Queso or watching Lacey's face turn red while she acted like the underwear might bite her...hehehe!  With our shopping trip over, we went to watch Arms & the Man.  I loved reading the play in high school & it was even funnier to watch.  David does a fantastic job - maybe a little too good - as does the rest of the cast.  The facial expressions are the best.  The spirit of George Bernard Shaw was definitely captured in the performance!  After the play, Lacey & I went to Taco Bell for dinner & to hang out.  That was a ton of fun, too.  We felt bad going in so soon to closing, but all sorts of people came in after us.  It was so nice to just chill & have fun for a while before life gets crazy again.  I wish you all luck with finals.  Later days!

P.S. Today's quote is from the movie The Beach.  I couldn't find a picture for it.

The Norton Anthology of World Literature, Volume B: 100 to 1500 (Second Edition)

So, we read this in World Lit.  It's Japanese poetry from The Man'yoshu & translated by Ian Hideo Levy.  My question: Great literary mind or crazy old drunk guy?

Thirteen poems in praise of wine by Lord Otomo Tabito, the Commander of the Dazaifu

Rather than engaging

in useless worries,

it’s better to down a cup

of raw wine.

Great sages of the past

gave the name of “sage” to wine.

How well they spoke!

What the Seven Wise Men

        of ancient times

wanted, it seems,

        was wine.

Rather than making pronouncements

        with an air of wisdom,

it’s better to down the wine

and sob drunken tears.

What is most noble,

     beyond all words

     and beyond all deeds,

is wine.

Rather than be half-heartedly human,

I wish I could be a jug of wine

and be soaked in it!

How ugly!

    those men who,

        with airs of wisdom,

            refuse to drink wine.

Take a good look,

and they resemble apes.

How could even

a priceless treasure

be better than a cup

        of raw wine?

How could even a gem

that glitters in the night

be as good as drinking wine

and cleansing the heart?

Here in this life,

on these roads of pleasure,

it is fun to sob drunken tears.

As long as I have fun

        in this life,

let me be an insect or a bird

        in the next.

Since all who live

must finally die,

let’s have fun

while we’re still alive.

Smug and silent airs of wisdom

are still not as good

as downing a cup of wine

and sobbing drunken tears.

Adam Bonner: No matter what you think you think, you think the same as I think.

I would like to dedicate today's quote to my mother.  For some reason, she can't seem to accept that I do not want to be a doctor.  I have realized that I don't have to choose a career based on what I decided when I was 4.  I've been rethinking my career options for a couple years now & have finally settled on social work.  I am almost positive that this is the job I want.  I have told Mom this several times.  Yet, everytime we talk on the phone, she has another reason I would make a good doctor or another person who thinks I should be a doctor or information on how much more money a doctor would make.  Quite frankly, she's driving me crazy!

In other news, Lacey & I have a new apartment.  We kept smelling gas in the other one.  They weren't really doing anything about it, but my dad called & left what he calls a "firm" message.  That afternoon I received an email saying they were opening another apartment for us & we could move in the next day.  Gotta love it!  Moving hasn't been super fun, but we're just about settled & the new apartment is almost the same as the old one so I guess I can handle it.

We're gonna go see a movie this weekend.  We haven't quite decided which one yet, but I think we might see Talladega Nights.  Whatever we choose, it'll be fun & a nice little break from the insanity that has been our lives lately.

We had our first waffle night last on Monday.  It was a ton of fun.  I say "first" because everyone voted that we needed to get together & do it again.  Mark actually suggested doing one every Monday, but that might be a bit extreme.

I've been watching the history channel the last couple nights.  Although it's been keeping me up later than I should be, I'm learning a lot & it's kinda fun stuff.

I guess that's about all I have.  Make it a great day!

By Night when Others Soundly Slept

By night when others soundly slept
And hath at once both ease and Rest,
My waking eyes were open kept
And so to lie I found it best.

I sought him whom my Soul did Love,
With tears I sought him earnestly.
He bow'd his ear down from Above.
In vain I did not seek or cry.

My hungry Soul he fill'd with Good;
He in his Bottle put my tears,
My smarting wounds washt in his blood,
And banisht thence my Doubts and fears.

What to my Saviour shall I give
Who freely hath done this for me?
I'll serve him here whilst I shall live
And Love him to Eternity.

Princess Kida: You are a scholar are you not? Judging by your diminished physique and large forehead you are suited for nothing else!

Hello!  Yes, I am finally back to the xanga world.  Today's quote seems perfect for the beginning of school.  That's right, it is again time to hit the books & be super-nerds!  I can tell by your joyful shouts that this idea excites you very much.

Lacey & I have moved into our apartment & everything is going well.  We're having good times & yes, we have already started on homework.  Granted, Lacey has done better than I, but that's to be expected.

We had our first girls' night this week.  That was definitely good times.  It looks like we'll be having a weekly Physics study group, which doesn't exactly equal a girls' night, but close enough.  We'll make it super fun for sure!

Work at Big Boy went as expected.  A lot of stress, a lot of work, & just enough money to return to OC.  Oh, & Jorge is supposed to buy me an engagement ring for Christmas.

Guess I'll leave it at that because I'm pretty sure everyone has given up on me updating anyway.  Catch ya all later!
